We are continuing our celebration of Women's Small Business Month by highlighting the successes of women-owned businesses that have benefited their companies and their communities through the 504 Loan Program.
25 years ago, Helen Wieman established the Livingston Montessori School in Livingston, Texas located about an hour north of Houston, Texas. Over the years, the school made a positive impact on the educational standards of the community, and became so successful that there was a long waiting list for admission. Helen decided to improve and expand the existing buildings, as well as add a new main building. New construction allowed the new classrooms to be designed specifically to the Montessori educational approach. This design optimized learning and increased the safety of the students.
The new building allowed the school to develop the computer lab, which had been hampered by the age of the existing buildings. Helen was able to increase the physical education of the students by constructing a new gymnasium. This new space also allowed the school to offer more services to the community.
Helen was able to increase her business promotion and efficiency by relocating the reception area and businesses offices to the main entrance of the school. Besides giving the school a more professional image, the expansion enabled them to increase their enrollment and prepare to accommodate even more students in the future.
The low fixed interest rate and low down payment of the 504 Loan Program allowed Helen to affordably improve the educational experience of her students, employ more people in her community, and provide a space from which the whole community could benefit.
